The text which I have picked to focus on is from a global regents review book. The sections that I will be analyzing throughout this blog are based on the following subject areas: European Nation-States, Renaissance and Humanism, and Protestant and Catholic Reformation. For this blog entry I will focus on my reading experience of the European Nation- State.
The words “feudal state” on the first page of the text reminded me of a show is on Showtime called the Tudors. It helped me create a visual image of the text. In the text the word nationalism was defined in the second paragraph. As I was reading the definition they used words such as culture and history. I began to think about examples of culture and history of the U.S. and one example that came to mind was the Pledge of Allegiance.
The second page of the reading discussed how England became a Nation-State. In the first paragraph it informed the readers of the indigenous Germanic groups of England. One group which invaded England was the Vikings. As I was reading this passage I began to think about how different terrorist groups have been invading different parts of America and the Middle East. In the third paragraph they talked about how they began to set up a centralized government. They introduce juries which made me think about jury duty.
The third page introduced France and their development of a centralized government. Louis XI was responsible for this development in France. When I saw the name Louis XI I associated him with the movie, “The Man in The Iron Mask” with Leonardo DeCarpio, who played Louis XI.
The last page of this section talked about the Hundred Years War. This war was fought between England and France. When reading this section I thought about the war in Iraq and how we have now been at war for six’s years.
